100 squats 12/22/2010

How to make your workout not seem pointless: I realize this may not be a problem for everyone, some people are perfectly happy exercising day after day with no particular reason, but from time to time I hear the complaint, "I would like to get stronger and reap the benefits of exercise but I just find it so pointless to move weights around at the gym" Well...How about this! Give yourself a goal. Something that seems challenging but you know you can accomplish if you try hard. That way, at the end of the workout you will feel like you did something other than just "a little of this, a little of that".
Yesterday I went to the gym with my mom (who I admit is NOT your average mom, she's a fit mom). As we were jogging over there I said, "today we are going to do 100 squats" and when we got there I decided we might as well do 100 push ups too! She was focused! She took that goal and ran with it. There was no doubt in my mind that she'd do those squats and do them well. and she did. 6I admit, it was hard, I thought about dropping weight and took 2 or 3 water breaks, but I did it too. And the feeling afterward was so great. Those last 98, 99, and 100.
So this is my piece of advice: you need a goal. Both long term and short term. Otherwise, what's the point? Goal making may seem silly, but no one great has ever become great without dreaming about becoming great. So dream on!

I baked Chocolate Chip Cookies and yes, I ate some!! hahaha. Let's face it guys, a life with out cookies would just be sad, so here's your chance to have your cookies and eat them too. This recipe takes the healthy and they yummy and mixes them all together so while you're treating yourself you're also doing a service to your body by feeding it healthy good stuff. Made with coconut oil, dark chocolate, agave sweetener, and oats, these cookies are gooooood for you. Eat up! and don't forget to share. Sharing is caring.

The Flu 12/14/2010

I spent 5 hours in the ER last night with the stomach flu. How awful! But I am feeling better now thanks to 2 liters of saline, some tylenol and a very nice boyfriend.
Man, I am just not a winter person, but i know I will be back full force in the summer. can't wait!
As much as I don't like to talk about the hard times, I wanted to post this so that everyone could know that I have bad days. Really bad days. And then I pick myself back up again and go forward. This is life.

So...November came and went just like that. I managed to pretty much fail on the goals I had set for myself that month. Too much holiday travel and work to do. But excuses are worthless so it's time to move on to the next goal.
December is here and it's already the 9th!
While I do believe it's important to stay fit all year around, I notice a clear difference in my motivation to work hard and eat lean during the winter months. And I also think it's important to use this time to relax a bit, experience the contrast and give the system a break. That way when it IS time to get serious, I will be ready and anxious rather than tired and worn out. Not to mention i am a complete wuss when it comes to the cold weather!
So here's my realistic goal setting:
Get to the gym ONCE a week for a full body workout plus cardiovascular exercise. That should do it. :)
